An Espanola Engagement…..
Monday, August 16th, 2010Transitions…..
Thursday, May 13th, 2010WOW!!! Well it’s been a month already in my new career as a FULL TIME photographer and photography studio owner …….I’m lovin’ it
As I go through the transition as the new owner of Pixatron Photo Studio I begin to realize all the cool new things that I can offer to my continuing clients as well as the new comers. I started out my photography practice back in 2005. That’s right 2005. So that makes it 5 years or so now that I have taking photographs with an SLR camera. I opened my own photography business in 2007 as Michael Blinn Photography, due to the over abundance of people wanting to hire me to photograph special events in their lives. Since then I have been accepted by the PPOC (Professional Photographers of Canada) as a Licentiate Professional Photographer of Ontario. And I have national accreditation’s in wedding photography and children’s portraits. I also received my first provincial merit awards for one of my TTD prints entitled “on the right track”. I never imaged to be doing this full time. But after having the door close on my full time job, this door opened…and when it did, it flew open. As a new owner, of course I want to change some things, and keep many things the same. As the saying goes….” If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. As I move through this new chapter of my life as a full time photographer I want to combine what I know and offered my own clients, with what the current Pixatron Photo Studio offers. So Like I said, there will be many changes over the next few months, but the old faithfully will still be there as well. As I continue to finish up with my current projects I would like leave you with some of these images from a Trash the Dress Session from late summer 2009.

PPO Provencial Salon Print Competition 2010
Monday, February 8th, 2010This years PPO provencial Salon print competition 2010 was held in Sudbury, Ontario by the North Eastern Ontario Brach of PPO. There were about 50 some enteries at a maximum of 4 prints per entery. I decided at the last minute to enter 4 prints. Since it was in Sudbury and our branch was hosting it, I was asked to help out with the set up and take down of equipment for the event. Not only did I get a chance to see some great images, and learn a lot about judging professional prints, but I also go to see my prints judged and scored. I scored a Merit and two accepted prints in my first ever provencial print competition. The print that scored Merit will automaticly be entered into the National print show and will automatically receive an accept, with the chance to go higher. Here are those prints starting with the Merit print.
Financial issues???
Thursday, February 4th, 2010Well, my speciality is Weddings and Children, but I can shoot almost anything….then again, I can shoot anything.
So I had a chance today to shoot a very good friend of mine and his new business associate. He is sponsoring a corporate dinner here in Sudbury for Pheasants Forever. He asked if I could do a not so traditional business type shot with him and his new business partner. Sure, why not…
The business is Michael Cecutti Financial on Paris St. His office is nice and homie and he’s always on the go. Every time you met with Mike he’ll have coffee and some type of cookie or pastry to try. They are always home made and more times then not, they were made by clients. I don’t know if you remember the Cecutti bread, it was always fresh and always great tasting. This same home style feeling is what Mike gives to all of his clients. If you are looking for a no nonsense financial planner who knows his stuff and genuinely cares about you, this is the man to see.

Trash the Dress Sudbury…. REALLY??
Tuesday, January 19th, 2010Well this is a hot topic with a few of my local colleagues and I. Why do some women want to trash their dress and others don’t? Well I think it really goes back a few years…..way back. Back so far, to the time when wedding dresses were passed down from mother to daughter and so on. Tradition if you will. However let’s face the facts, in today’s society how many young brides really want to wear their mother’s wedding dress? It’s out of style, it’s not what they want and it might be not even be white anymore. Now don’t get me wrong, I know that wedding gowns aren’t cheap. Actually they can be almost if not more expensive then wedding photography. But the reality is this, you only get to wear it once. One day, for 16 or so hours, and after that, then what? You either get it cleaned and put it away, or you just end up putting it away as is. Some may hope that their daughter will want to wear it, but let’s be honest, there’s a reason why you bought a brand new dress right?
Trash the Dress or TTD as it is known is nothing new. Some sources claim that the trend was originally started in 2001 by Las Vegas wedding photographer John Michael Cooper. However, the idea of destroying a wedding dress has been used in Hollywood symbolically since at least October 1998 when Meg Cummings of the show Sunset Beach ran into the ocean in her wedding dress after her wedding was badly interrupted. But here in Sudbury, it still very new. Thanks to the use of Internet TTD has gained in popularity. But Sudbury brides are still very torn by the idea. Just the term TRASH the DRESS is repulsive to them. And when you pay thousands of dollars for a wedding gown, why would you want to TRASH it?
Well let’s get a better definition of Trash the Dress shall we….
….Why? … Why not? You’ve made a commitment to your husband. He’s your one and only true love, right? Then you’ll never need the dress again. And no, your daughter won’t wear it in 20-30 years. So you have two choices:
1) Suffocate it in plastic and throw it in a closet
2) Have that feeling you did on you wedding day. Attention is all on you again, but this time, no pressure, your hair done your way, your make up is done the way you like it. Show your husband how committed you are by trashing the dress, and get some great fun pictures while you do it!
I have done several of these sessions last year with great success. I have yet to have a bride tell me that their wedding gown was ruined from one of these sessions. Actually, most of the time this forces the brides to get the gowns cleaned and for the most part they come out almost good as new.
After you wedding is done and over and your sitting there looking at how dirty your dress got from you special day, wondering “…what am I going to do with this?” Consider wearing it one last time. The result will be fun, beautiful glamorous bridal shots that will be forever remembered. And really? What bride doesn’t want to wear their wedding dress one last time?
If you would like to book a Trash the Dress session or just want to get more info about these type session please feel free to call the studio for more info. I will gladly help with any question you might have. Sudbury is slowing getting on board with TTD. Why not join the revolution?

Michael Blinn Photography Bridal show Draw Winner.
Tuesday, January 12th, 2010So today is the day….well actually it was last night
Today is the day that I mention who won the draw for a free family session with prints valued at $250.00, which was only offered at the 2010 Sudbury bridal show. Over 270 some brides came through the doors Saturday and Sunday to check out the vendors at the bridal show. This being my first show, I was in total awe when the doors opened Satuday morning. But what a rush when the crowd started moving through. I bet over a thousand people came through my booth. A quick count of draw ballets totaled about half of that. That’s right, the draw was open to everyone there, including vendors. With out further ado it’s time to announce the winner of the draw…….drum roll please……….
……… and the winner is …….
